About this object
Panoramic view of Marine Parade looking towards Cape Kidnappers thought to have been taken around 1937. On the right side of the photograph are the Marine Parade gardens designed by Stanley Natusch and J A Louis Hay. The Kirk Sundial is located at the south end of the gardens. Further along Marine Parade are the Veronica Sunbay (built 1934) and the Soundshell (built 1935), both designed by J T Watson. The beach is visible on the extreme left. Along the city side of Marine Parade from right to left are the Napier Courthouse (designed by William Henry Clayton, completed 1875), the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874), the Masonic Hotel (designed by Prouse & Wilson, completed 1932), and the T & G Building (designed by Atkin & Mitchell, completed 1935-36). The seaward side of Marine Parade is lined with Norfolk Island Pines. Cars and buses can be seen parked along the street.
