The photograph depicts the Women's Rest in Memorial Square, Napier, after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.

The Women's Rest building was completed in 1925 and was badly damaged by the earthquake.

This photograph was taken from the Tennyson Street side of Memorial Square.

The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
