Brief Description
The sketch map of the Middle Island of New Zealand has been reduced from an original Māori sketch made for Mr Halswell. The map shows Māori place names of coastal and harbour areas, and two lakes. Comments are written on the map, including descriptions of the quality of harbours and land. Examples of the comments include: only fit for boats; flat land; plenty of seals; and plenty of whalers huts. There are also navigation notes.
