About this object
View of Marine Parade looking south towards Awatoto, possibly taken between 1933 or 1934. Marine Parade is lined with Norfolk Island Pines and park benches. The area between the beach and the parade has been grassed and the gardens planted. Further along the esplanade are the foundations of the sunbay which is under construction. The Napier Courthouse (designed by William Henry Clayton, completed 1875) is visible on the extreme right of the image. The Borough Council Chambers (built 1874) and the Masonic Hotel (designed by Prouse & Wilson, completed 1932) are visible further down Marine Parade.

Photographer, unknown.

The parade looking from the courthouse to Awatoto. The place which juts out with the flagpole is the band stand. Surely a vast difference from when you saw it last. 1.5.34., Inscription, Handwritten
