About this object
A photograph of Clifton Bay, Cape Kidnappers, taken in the 1920s. The image depicts families and couples on the beach enjoying a recreational day.
The photograph illustrates the curve of the bay and is taken from a southern point looking back along the foreshore rather than out to the Cape.
People are swimming in the water and there are children playing in the shallows.
In the foreground a truck with A Wilkie written on the front is visible; this was a local Hawke’s Bay Carrier firm. There are also two other vehicles. One has a make shift awning providing shade for the family picnic. A wicker and iron pram is next to the shade and picnic items, cups and saucers are visible on the rug.
