Brief Description
Daily reports and letters by J B Gleadow regarding the Quarantine Station at Park Island, Napier.

a) A group of daily reports dated from 9 to 18 January 1878. These reports were written by J B Gleadow and include weather reports, lists of rations and records of daily events at the Quarantine Station, such as the arrival of emigrants and fumigation. Mr Gleadow mentions the people he met, including John Hislop senior, Samuel Paramore, John Smith, William Wells, John Farmer, William Madden, William Balham, John Berry and H John Thornton. This report is made up of seven numbered pages.

b) A letter from Mr Gleadow to Mr Fannin dated 15 January 1878. It concerns the overstaying of sailors from the ship Renfrewshire and describes the lewd conduct and theft which is ongoing at Park Island due to the fraternisation of sailors and nurses.

c) A letter from Mr Gleadow and John Dale to Mr Fannin dated 16 January 1878. It states that all passengers have washed, fumigated clothing and that one well is dry and the other is green with vermin and detritus and unsuitable for consumption.

d) A report outlining the history of Park Island. This report is unsigned and undated.
