This photograph is thought to depict a Surgery and Private Hotel in Napier after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.

The surgery is possibly the medical practise of Dr W D Fitzgerald, Marine Parade, Napier. A boarding house was next door to this. The proprietor of the boarding house was Simon Dick.

The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
