The Hannah's Building withstood the earthquake. The interior of the building was gutted by fire. To the right of the Hannah's Building is the Abbott Building. To the left, the premises of Lockyer's are visible.
In the foreground of the photograph signage for Guardian Assurance Company Limited can be seen lying on the road along Browning Street.
The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
