About this object
This photograph depicts Tennyson, Emerson and Dickens Streets, from an elevated view on Bluff Hill.

The photograph was taken after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931 and shows the devastation caused to central Napier by the quake and the fires that followed.

Visible is the Napier Post Office, which was burnt out by fire, but was one of the few buildings left standing. The building to the right of the Post office is thought to be Anderson & Hansen Limited, a garage.

The premises of Hawke's Bay Motor Company Limited is visible on the extreme right of the photograph.

The Norfolk pines of Marine Parade can be seen stretching into the distance.

The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
