This photograph depicts Tennyson and Emerson Streets, from an elevated view on Bluff Hill.

The photograph was taken after the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931 and shows the devastation caused to central Napier by the quake and the fires that followed.

The Napier Post Office can be seen near the centre right of the photograph.

The photographer is thought to be Frank L Moodie, architect.
