About this object
View of Memorial Square from the intersection of Clive Square East and Emerson Street looking towards Napier Hill. The cenotaph (built 1921) stands in the centre of the image. To the left is the Mother’s Rest, designed by Napier architect Louis Hay in 1925. Gardens planted with young palm trees and a low limestone wall run around the perimeter of the square. There is a phone booth on the footpath adjacent to the park. Houses are visible along the top of Napier Hill.
