This file contains documents relating to a claim rendered by masseur J Redward for massage and electrical treatment provided to earthquake victims following the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake. The account was placed before the Mayor of Hastings in July 1931. Mr Redward disputes the amount offered in respect of the service he provided to the victims. He writes that he was assured of payment for the treatment of the patients by the Mayor of Hastings, Mr G F Roach and at no time was he given to believe that he would be reimbursed at less than his usual rates. His claims were placed before the Napier Committee who determined a settlement sum.
The documents include original letters and signed copies. Included are the names of the patients in receipt of treatment and mention is made of Mr F G Brighurst also employed to do massage work for earthquake sufferers at Hastings.
