About this object
This photograph depicts the original convalescent wards at the Napier Public Hospital. It is thought that these two single-storey wards were the first part of the hospital to be built on Barrack Hill in 1880. They have been referred to as the Chronic and Margaret wards.
Both of these buildings were damaged in the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.
The old two-storied Nurses' Home, which at the time of the earthquake was used as the Doctor's quarters, is visible on the left side of the photograph.
The photographer is thought to be Frank Moodie, architect.
