About this object
View of Herschell Street taken from Marine Parade in the late nineteenth century. On the extreme left of the image stands the Masonic Hotel. Behind the Masonic Hotel are the premises of the London Lancaster Fire Insurance Company, which stood on the corner of Herschell Street and Tennyson Street. The South British Insurance Company building is visible on the corner of Herschell Street and Browning Street. Along the right side of Herschell Street can be seen the band rotunda, the Borough Council Chambers (built 1874). To the right of the band rotunda is Marine Parade. Bluff hill is visible in the distance.
