Letter from Secretary, Earthquake Relief Committee, memorandum for the Repatriation Officer, Napier, dated 10 April 1931, regarding attached circular forwarded to all Relief Committees; Two pages, Hawke's Bay Earthquake Relief Return of Refugees circular: time for refugees outside Hawke's Bay to return to Napier; Relief Committees instructed to: a) serve notice to all refugees; b) inform refugees that if they do not act within 7 days all relief will be withdrawn and transport cancelled; c) insert notice in local newspapers with above information. Accommodation can be arranged for refugees at Nelson Park Camp; time extension granted to those refugees unable/unfit to travel; rail transport provided free for people holding appropriate permits; sea transport at discretion of committee; the information in this notice should also be broadcast on radio.

Letter from Secretary, Earthquake Relief Committee, Tiffen Park House, memorandum for the Repatriation Officer, Athenaeum Buildings, Napier, dated 1 April 1931: Issue of Permits to Refugees for Free Passages Back to Napier. Further to relinquishing of aid for refugees after seven days notice to return to Napier, repatriation of refugees in Palmerston North, Wanganui, Dunedin and Invercargill already issued. Other districts will be supplied with free passage orders for refugees. Many permits already issued were undated, causing problems with expiration date. Because of this, all newly issued permits should be dated, bear the words refugee and available only for seven days from date hereof. May be extended to ten days at discretion.
