About this object
An early view of The Spit, Ahuriri and the Western Spit taken from Bluff Hill. The development of Gough and Māori Islands, around which early land reclamation began forming West Quay, is evident. Murray Roberts, the Railway Hotel and Banner, Liddle, Kinross and Company's buildings are visible.

On the dip of the land a horse is seen grazing near a small wooden building. The North and South Pond are visible. There is little settlement on the Western Spit and the North British Freezing Works are not yet built.
