About this object
View of a cottage on Goldsmith Road thought to have been taken around 1862. The cottage may have been built to house an officer of the 65th Regiment. The walls and roof of the timber-framed cottage are clad in thatched raupo. A smaller structure of similar construction is located to the right of the main house. The property has been fenced. The front yard has been planted with trees and shrubs, which partially obscures the front façade of the cottage. A man sits on the porch in the shade of the verandah. Steps leading to the barracks that were located on the top of Napier Hill are visible on the extreme right of the photograph.
