Businesses visible along the left side of Hastings Street include Carters, Sidey and Bain (ironmongers), P F Colledge (watchmaker and jeweller), H Williams (ironmonger), and R T Smythe (bookseller and stationer). On the extreme right of the image stands the Bank of New Zealand on the corner of Hastings Street and Browning Street. Other businesses visible along the right side of the street include Ringland Brothers (hatters and hosiers), a book, stationary and music seller, Ruddock and Fryer (ironmonger), and the New Zealand Clothing Factory (clothing manufacturers). Horse drawn carriages run along Hastings Street.
