About this object
View of Hastings Street looking south thought to have been taken in 1890. Among the businesses that are visible along the right hand side of the street are the New Zealand Clothing Factory, R H Abbott and Company (warehousemen), the London Dental Company, A Frederickson, J N Anderson (nurseryman and florist), John Chadwick (bookseller and stationer), and the Criterion Hotel. On the opposite side of the intersection of Hastings Street and Emerson Street is the Union Bank of Australia. On the left side of the road signs advertising Bestall and Griffin and the NEW ZEALAND Trawling Fish Supply Company are visible. At the centre of the image a horse drawn cart makes its way down Hastings Street.
