About this object
View of Hastings Street taken looking south from Browning Street. On the left side of the image is the premises of R Hannah and Company, which occupied the corner of Hastings Street and Browning Street. Behind Hannah’s, signs advertising S E Cooper, the Mapie Drapery Company, Neal and Close, Cranby and Prebble (coal and seed merchants), H Nesbitt (grocer), H Williams (furnishing and ironmonger), Yates and Company, and Higgins (butcher) are visible. On the opposite side of Hastings Street stands the Bank of New Zealand. The corner of the old Post Office is visible on the extreme right. A row of horse drawn carriages wait outside. The premises of Ringland and Thomas (hatters and hosiers) is visible further down the street.
