View of Hastings Street from Napier Hill looking towards Cape Kidnappers. On the extreme right of the image stands the Napier Post Office, which was located on the corner of Hastings Street and Browning Street. Behind the Post Office is the Bank of New Zealand. The Criterion Hotel stands on the intersection of Hastings Street and Emerson Street. Along Hastings Street, signs advertising Benjamin’s Fruit and Poultry Depot, and The New Zealand Clothing Factory are visible. Behind the chimney of the Post Office can be seen the Daily Telegraph Office and the premises of the Union Insurance Company. The back of the Clarendon Hotel is located in the foreground. Horse drawn carriages are parked along Hastings Street.
