About this object
This photograph depicts the ruins of the Criterion Hotel, located on the corner of Hastings Street and Emerson Street, Napier. Also shown is the destruction to central Napier after the Hawke's Bay earthquake and fires that followed on 3 February 1931.
In the right hand side of the image, below Bluff Hill, a roofless St Paul's Presbyterian Church can been seen. The church was located on Dalton Street.
It is noted on the photo card that Alan Angus, Rita Angus' brother, lived in house in the top right corner of the photograph and then the Geddis Family. Trevor Geddis was the managing director of the Daily Telegraph, Napier, in September 1931.
