About this object
View of the intersection of Browning Street and Hastings Street that is thought to have been taken around 1927. On the left side of the photograph the Colonial Bank, Hannah's Buildings and Abbott Building are visible. Along this side of the street signs advertising a pharmacy, J C Chadwick (bookseller and stationer), Parker and Company Limited (tailor and outfitters), and R Thorp and Company (boot sellers) can also be seen. On the opposite side of Hastings Street, signs advertising Howe Brothers (bookseller and stationer) and teas rooms are visible. On Hastings Street, a tram stops to pick up a passenger. To the right, a public telephone is located on the street corner.
