About this object
This photograph depicts Hastings Street, Napier from the corner of Emerson Street. Pictured are buildings in the central Napier street destroyed by the Hawke's Bay earthquake of 3 February 1931and the fires that followed. The view looks along Hastings Street towards Shakespeare Road and Bluff Hill. The tram lines in Hastings Street can be seen in the foreground and the Clarendon Hotel is visible at the end of the Hastings Street. The damaged signage of Parker clothing outfitters is also visible.
