About this object
This photograph depicts Emerson Street and the devastation caused to central Napier by the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931.
Taken from Marine Parade, looking down Emerson Street, rubble and the remains of buildings cover the road.
The building on the left side of the photograph has been identified as Murray, Roberts and Co. Ltd, which originally was a two storied building.
It is thought the YMCA was on the the upper level.
