About this object
View of Hastings Street that is thought to have been taken in 1866. The building on the left of the photograph is thought to be the premises of Newton, Irvine and Company (importers, station and commission agents), which was located on the corner of Hastings Street and Carlyle Street. Adjacent to this building stands Medical Hall, which was occupied at this time by J W Gowing (chemist, druggist). The building to the right of Medical Hall is thought to have been occupied by ironmonger Michael Boylan. The two buildings nearest the camera are occupied by N Williams Oil and Colour Shop (painters) and P Cosgrove (saddler).
