The house in the foreground is the home of Harbour Master, Henry Kraeft. The building behind the coach is Margoliouth and Banner's. The stage coach in the photo is parked outside the Spit Post Office. The two story building was owned by Wenley and Lanauze's wool store. It was destroyed by fire in October 1898.
People are standing and walking in the street, the photograph appears to have been taken during commercial activity.
