About this object
View of Emerson Street taken from Marine Parade between 1874 and 1897. On the left of the photograph is Neal and Close. Opposite Neal and Close stand Palmer’s Stables and the National Bank of New Zealand. On the opposite side of Hasting Street, which runs across the photograph behind Neal and Close, can be seen the Union Bank of Australia and the Criterion Hotel. Further down Emerson Street can be seen the original premises of Blythe and Company (drapers and clothiers), and ironmonger A H Wilson. A large sign advertising the Evening News is also visible.
The street is occupied by horse-drawn carriages and pedestrians.
