About this object
Image of settlement and military encampment at Whatawhata, Waikato, taken in January 1864. The photograph is taken from a distance. Whare and other permanent structures are visible below a land rise where the tents are pitched on a plateau. Permanent fences are also visible at the top of the rise. Some people are discernable in the image. The photograph is taken during the New Zealand Wars.
