Brief Description
Soldier's pay book issued to Corporal William Ryan circa World War I.

The booklet attached to the inside of the folder has pages for instructions to soldiers, personal information on Corporal William Ryan and his wages, next of kin (Mary Ryan) and promotions and wage increases. Includes pages of lined entries for cash payments on wages drawn. There is a page for a Will which has been cancelled.

The pay book was opened on 22 December 1917, though the first entry is for 26 January 1918. The last entry is on 27 November 1919. There are several stamps throughout the pay-book that indicate that he returned to New Zealand on the SS Prinzessin.

Tucked into the front flap is an unknown newspaper cutting dated August 1961. The article is titled: Too Good for Army Tucker and is a humorous story about a soldier and his fake teeth.
