About this object
A vignette group portrait from the Spencer Collection taken sometime during or shortly after the New Zealand Wars. A wooden sailing yacht is tied to the river bank and a small dinghy is up on the sand in front of it.

The group are loosely posed for the photograph. On the left a woman and child are seated with a black dog nearby. To their left a woman is kneeling with a toddler on her hip. A man in suit and hat stands near the top of the dinghy next to two small children inside it in formal dress. A group of young women and two boys are seated to the left of the dinghy in less formal dress. A man stands behind them in the far end of the dinghy boat holding a rowing pole.

A building is visible on the far side of the river bank. The location of the photograph is unknown.
