About this object
Image of a settlement on the Napier-Taupo Road. Probably the redoubt at Tarawera taken circa 1870. Several buildings are visible fenced off below a high ridge. There appear to be several barricades to the right of the picture. Telegraph poles and wires run toward other buildings in the foreground of the image. Several people stand or sit in the space between to the two areas of buildings. There is a fence in the foreground and hills in the background behind the ridge.

Photograph attributed to Dr William Isaac Spencer.
