About this object
This photograph gives a panoramic view of the intersection where Shakespeare Road and Hastings Street meet and where Browning Street crosses them. The street view looks up Shakespeare Road and depicts the damaged caused by the Hawke's Bay earthquake on the 3rd of February 1931. On the left of the photograph is what remains of the Old Post Office building which was destroyed by fire. On the right side of the photograph is the AMP (Australian Mutual Provident Society) building, in which the front of the building has collapsed. Next to this is the Clarendon Hotel. Behind the buildings on Shakespeare Road, Bluff Hill can be seen.
