About this object
View of Emerson Street thought to have been taken during the reconstruction of the Central Business District in the 1930s. Looking down Emerson Street towards the Dalton Street intersection, the photograph shows the Hotel Central that was built in the Art Deco style in 1932 to designs by local architect E A Williams.

On the corner of Emerson and Dalton Streets stands the E & D Building. Designed by E A Williams, this building was erected in 1929. Allen's Home Furnishing Specialists occupy the premises at street level.

To the left of the E & D Building further commercial buildings can be seen, including Lockyer's Building (built 1932), Rice's Building (completed 1929), Triggs & Morgan Building (built 1932), and Hurst's Building (built 1932).

To the right of the Hotel Central a building (possibly Mid City Plaza, built 1920-25) is in the process of being reconstructed.
