A view of Colonel Jasper Lucas Herrick's expedition to Lake Waikaremoana, circa 1869, concerning the entry into the Urewera during the New Zealand Wars.
A group of people are standing along the lake edge in the foreground of the image. They are mostly in formal dress and appear to be surveying the scene. The mid-ground shows whare and other buildings up on the opposite bank, there are small vessels in the water. In the background the hills are visible.
