The photograph is taken above Shakespeare Road in Napier looking towards Cape Kidnappers. The large building behind the picket fence is the Provincial Council Chambers. On the left is the Napier Post Office. Hastings Street can be seen in front of the Post Office. Browning Street is behind the Provincial Council Chambers. The Masonic Hotel is the two storeyed building directly behind the Chambers. It faces Marine Parade.
