Object detail

Brief Description
A map of Te Aute and Moeangiangi land blocks. Both blocks have additional Maori place names written along the edges of the mapped areas. Written beneath the title of the first map, Te Aute Number 2 Block, are the words: Deed of Gift, 31 March 1857. The second map, Moeangiangi Block, has the date 7 July 1859 and represents an area of 10,000 or 12,000 acres. Also indicated on the Moeangiangi map is the supposed course of the Waipapa and the track from Ahuriri to Mohaka.

Both maps are identified as being from Turton, possibly indicating that they were traced by J D H Buchanan from Turton's Deeds at the Alexander Turnbull Library, as inscribed on other similar maps. The date that the copy was made by J D H Buchanan is unknown.
