Brief Description
A diary and papers as follows:
a) A diary written by William Colenso between Friday 1 January - Saturday 31 December 1892. In the diary William Colenso writes about his daily activities, his ill health, visitors who spent time with him, letters he wrote and the people he wrote them to, his trips to retrieve botanical samples, his work with the Anglican church, financial matters, his travels mainly to Dannevirke and Woodville, and the weather. The diary is a Letts's Australasian Rough Diary.
Glued to the back of the front cover is a memorial card for Richard Veale Thomas Colenso who passed away on 5 June 1892 in Penzance. On the page opposite, William Colenso has glued a memo titled: letters written me.
b) A loose piece of paper with writing on it was found in the diary. It reads: Metrosideros speciosa Col (ns) Bush near Waikanae Railway Station, Wellington. Easter 1889. Signed by Augustus Hamilton. On the back are jottings. The text begins: opening 15 session of the Institute....
c) Webb's Auction label on which is written: C L Thomas Collection 385.
