Brief Description
A file named: Personal Losses, Approved Applications: Paid, G-L. The file contains letters, copies of letters, invoices, receipts, lists and application forms titled: Fire Loss. Application for Compensation for Furniture, Personal Effects, et cetera. Lost by Fire consequent on Earthquake. The applications are approved by the Earthquake Relief Committee at Tiffen Park House in Napier and are regarding claims for personal losses by persons with surnames from G to L.

The application form lists the name and address of the applicant, dependants, details of the articles lost, value of the article, total value of all articles, location of articles at the time of the earthquake, name of the applicant's employer, the applicant's salary per week, their approximate period of residence in Napier, any assistance which may already have been granted, whether the goods were insured, any outstanding liability on the goods and names and addresses of persons able to verify the loss and the applicant's signature. The amount granted by the committee is listed at the bottom of the form and includes the stamped or handwritten signature of the chairman, W Harvey. The maximum grant available is listed as £50.
