Brief Description
Assorted documents in a folder numbered 12 and titled: Authorities to Occupy Premises.

A handwritten letter from Jack Snaddon of Goldfinch and Cousins in Palmerston North to the Chairman of the Building Committee. The letter is dated 19 February 1931 and is a request for notification of the availability of temporary building premises. The letter has shorthand annotations on the back.

A carbon copy of a letter dated 21 February, to Mr Jack Snaddon of Goldfinch and Cousins of Palmerston North. The letter is in response to a request for the erection of temporary business premises.

A letter from the Town Clerk in Christchurch to the Secretary of the Earthquake Relief Committee. The letter is dated 6 March 1931 and was written on behalf of the Mayor acknowledging receipt of a letter and a query regarding the reinstatement of Mrs B E Cunningham's house. The letter is signed by the Town Clerk.

A carbon copy of a letter to Mrs F W Martin in Wellington. The letter is dated 11 March and is regarding a travel permit.

A letter to the Public Trustee from architect and civil and structural engineer E A Williams. The letter is dated 28 February 1931 and provides recommendations for the reconstruction of the Pacific Hotel in Hastings.

A handwritten letter to the Chairman of the Reconstruction Committee from J Clark Thomson, requesting permission to re-enter his house in Colenso Avenue. The author writes that he is currently residing with a daughter in Hamilton and wishes to bring his nephew from Wanganui to help repair the damage. The letter is dated 12 February 1931 and has annotations on the back.

A letter to J Clark Thompson acknowledging receipt of a letter and advising an application for a permit to re-occupy is enclosed. The author writes that the committee does not desire outside persons to assist with repairs as there are plenty of tradesmen in Napier available for this work.

A telegram from Dalley in Hawera to Mr Morse requesting a permit for himself and family to return to Napier to open a business in Dickens Street and to re-occupy his house in McDonald Street. The Napier postmark is dated 19 February 1931. There is an annotation on the back of the telegram.

Two carbon copies of a temporary permit issued to Mr Fred Lowe from the Napier Earthquake Committee in order to re-occupy premises in Herschell Street for the purpose of motor vehicle repairs. The permit is dated 9 February 1931.

A carbon copy of a permit issued to Mr Eyles to take possession of a workshop in Alexanders building in Dickens Street for the purpose of sign writing for the committee. The permit is dated 16 February.

A carbon copy of a permit issued to Mr S King for the removal of furniture. The permit is dated 14 February.

A handwritten letter to the manager of Stewart Nash Motors Limited from architect J A Louis Hay. The letter is dated February 9 and contains recommendations for repairs to Nash Motors building.

An authorization issued by the Chairman and approved by the Public Works Department for W Neilson and W Cooper to re-enter the premises of W Corbett in the Cosmopolitan buildings. The permit is dated 11 February 1931.

A handwritten authorization issued on behalf of A Dinnie for Mr Corbett to enter his premises in the Cosmopolitan Club buildings. The permit is dated 11 February 1931.

Three carbon copies of a permit for John Duthie and Company to occupy their premises at Port Ahuriri. The permit is dated 10 February 1931 and is issued by the Napier Citizens' Earthquake Committee with conditions as stipulated by the Public Works Department. Attached to the copies is a handwritten note dated 9 February 1931 and issued on behalf of A Dinnie with a recommendation for securing Duthie's buildings prior to its occupation.

A carbon copy of a permit issued by the Napier Earthquake Relief Committee to Mr D B Clough to occupy his premises in Hastings Street. The permit is approved as safe for business purposes by the Public Works Department. The permit is dated 10 February 1931. Attached to the copy is a handwritten note written on behalf of A Dinnie stating that he has inspected a premises at 278 Hastings Street, owned by D B Clough and approves them as safe for business purposes.
