Brief Description
A memorandum to the Director of Transport at Shortlands buildings in Napier, from the Earthquake Relief Committee at Tiffen Park House and a letter to the Earthquake Relief Committee from the Transport office.
a) The memorandum is dated 27 February 1931 and is regarding claims for transport services. The secretary of the Earthquake Relief Committee writes that claims from various firms as per an attached list are enclosed and are in accordance with instructions received in an earlier letter. The secretary asks that when the accounts have been checked and certified that they be returned, along with the supporting invoices, for submission for payment to the Relief committee at Tiffen Park House. The letter is signed, surname Douglas, on behalf of the secretary of the committee. There are two annotations on the memorandum.
b) A letter to the secretary of the Earthquake Relief committee at Tiffen Park House, Napier from B B Creagh and F G Smith at the Transport office. The letter is dated 2 March 1931 and is in reference to unexplained transactions. The transport office advises they are only issuing petrol, oil and tyres on signed orders from responsible officers in the departments listed in their letter and that they have no knowledge of the transactions listed in the enclosed accounts.
They ask that all accounts been directly sent to the department or committee concerned. The letter is signed on behalf of Creagh and Smith by A H Hyde.
