Handwritten letter from Henry Russell complaining about the behaviour of the licensed interpreters. He gives examples of the interpreters pressuring Māori into mortgage agreements and being hired by conflicted parties so as to delay the signing of deeds and mortgages.

Handwritten memorandum from G Cooper, Under Secretary of Native Affairs, in which he states that a circular should be sent to all interpreters advising that under the act they must provide their services regardless of who retains them.

Handwritten memorandum from James Prendergast, Attorney General, stating that interpreters have a duty to provide their services in a timely manner and not to delay in the hope that the party who has retained their service may gain unfair advantage.
