Brief Description
A group of documents from a folder from Stephensons Trading Company Limited entitled: Invoices for Investigation. Circa February to May1931.

A receipt received from the Napier Earthquake Relief Fund committee for the sum of forty-four pounds ten shillings and two pence for bacon and ham supplies.

A letter dated 6 May 1931 on Dominion of New Zealand letterhead paper from the Earthquake Relief committee at Tiffen Park House, Napier. The letter is to Mr H Schierning at Artillery Barracks food depot and asks him to deliver to W Harvey or any person acting on his behalf, the safe and keys at Artillery Barracks. The letter is from the chief inspector at the Public Trust office and has two signatures, both indecipherable. An annotation reads: Delivered to Barry Brothers.

A memorandum dated 23 March 1931 on Dominion of New Zealand letterhead paper from the secretary of the Earthquake Relief committee at Tiffen Park House, Napier. The memorandum is to the food controller at the Barracks' buildings in Kennedy Road, Napier and is regarding contra accounts of the transport department to be recovered from persons rendering transport services. The secretary writes that a list of people employed by the Food Control committee is included with the letter. The letter is has an indecipherable signature, surname possibly Douglas, and a stamp indicating the letter was received on 26 March 1931. With the letter is a typed list of names of people employed by the Food Control committee. Handwritten annotations beside the names provides further information about the query.

A handwritten voucher to the Transport Separtment from the chairman of the Napier Food Control committee requesting that the bearer of the voucher be given the amount of the listed debit against N J Hill for benzine and fuel repairs. The voucher has been signed on behalf of A Hobson.

An invoice for supplies on a Murdoch's Limited printed form. It is addressed: Relief Committee, underneath which is written: Received 3 February, Day of 'Quake. It also states that the goods were not returned and were borrowed for the hospital. An annotation on the invoice, dated 1 May 1931 and signed A E Murdoch, states that the goods were returned.

A letter dated 18 April 1931 from Vacuum Oil Company in Wellington on letterhead paper to the secretary of the Earthquake Relief committee at Tiffen Park in Napier. The manager, F J Hanron writes regarding a letter and cheque sent by the committee and in return advises that he has enclosed a receipt. He continues with a query about an invoice for which he states the company has no record and requests further information. The letter has handwritten annotations and a Napier Relief Committee stamp.

A letter dated 13 April 1931 from the secretary at Tiffen Park House to the manager of Vacuum Oil Company in Wellington regarding an invoice which had been sent to the wrong department. He writes that he is enclosing a cheque and requests that the manager complete and return the enclosed form of receipt.

A memorandum dated 12 March 1931, from the secretary at Tiffen Park House for Mr A Hobson, food controller at the Barracks' building in Kennedy Road, querying accounts from Dalgety and Company and Vacuum Oil Company in Wellington.

A letter dated 20 March 1931 from the manager of Timaru Milling Company Limited to the sales manager at Stephenson Trading Company of Napier regarding a mistake in the delivery of a consignment of goods. The letter is signed by W Moody on behalf of the manager. The letter is on Timaru Milling Company letterhead paper and has a stamp from the Napier Earthquake Relief committee regarding the method of payment.

A letter dated 15 April 1931, from the manager of Ellison and Duncan Limited, Port Ahuriri, to the food controller at Artillery Barracks, Kennedy Road, Napier, advising that they are prepared to take the listed goods as long as the price is acceptable.

A letter dated 17 April 1931 from the chairman of the Napier Food Control committee to the manager of Ellison and Duncan Limited at Port Ahuriri acknowledging receipt of his letter and offering goods for supply. The letter lists the price of the goods and requests that they be picked up by lorry as soon as possible. The letter is unsigned.

A letter dated 16 April 1931 from Williams and Kettle Limited, Napier to the chairman of the Napier Food Control committee at Artillery Barracks, Kennedy Road, Napier advising that they are prepared to take the listed stock items if they are still available. The letter is on Williams and Kettle letterhead paper. It has a Williams and Kettle stamp and is signed on behalf of the company by R E Bishop.

A letter dated 17 April 1931 from the chairman of the Napier Food Control committee to the manager of Williams and Kettle Store, Port Ahuriri, advising the cost and availability of goods in stock and requesting that they be collected as soon as possible. The letter is unsigned.

An invoice dated 11 February 1931 from Henry Williams and Son Limited to the Napier Citizens' Control committee at Nelson Park for goods supplied. The invoice has a Napier Relief committee stamp. An annotation reads that the goods are for temporary reticulation at Nelson Park. It is initialled and marked as correct.

A letter dated 19 March 1931 from the Napier Food Control committee at Artillery Barracks in Kennedy Road, Napier to the manager of Henry Williams and Sons Limited in Napier querying an invoice and requesting information about the authorisation of the requisitions. A handwritten annotation lists the invoice amount. The letter is in two pieces and has no signature.

A report prepared by Constable R H Moss of the Napier Police dated 28 March 1931. The report relates to an invoice for milk supplied to the Police Station prior to 21 February 1931. The report was signed by J R Hodgson on 29 March 1931 and includes a handwritten annotation, dated 22 April 1931 from Police Inspector D J Cummings and includes a Napier Relief Committee stamp. With the report is an invoice from Artillery Barracks dated 29 March 1931, to the Police Department, Napier. The invoice is for milk supplied by J R Hill. A stamp from the Napier Earthquake Relief committee at Tiffen House lists method of payment details. There are four handwritten annotations on the invoice and a District Police Office stamp.

A typewritten list of Central Food Committee stock as at 13 April 1931. The list includes handwritten corrections or annotations of amounts and costs.

A printed invoice form from J N Anderson and Son, Limited numbered 27301 and addressed to Murdochs Limited for the supply of sugar. A line has been drawn through the name J N Anderson and Son and above it reads: Received from Food Control.
