About this object
The photographer Russell Duncan has written under the photograph: Opepe. View taken as near as possible from same position as one on opposite page but 46 years later. Note Manuka and broom has taken the place of tussock. No one would credit the change that has taken place in the vegetation of the Kaimanawa plains in 40 years. The high blue gum tree on mound was planted by Alfred Morton Moon, a trooper in the AC. The car is facing towards Taupo. View taken 1st April 1915.

The photograph shows the Napier-Taupo Road running in front of a fence line beyond which was the Opepe village. The car is a Vauxhall and is parked on the side of the road.
