Brief Description
A folder of articles and clippings both about and compiled by James Walker. The contents are:
a) A newspaper article about the gift of a stained glass picture from James Walker to the Library of Pakuranga.
b) A black and white photograph which looks like it may have been used for the photograph accompanying the above mentioned article about a gift to Pakuranga Library. Pictured in the photograph were Nance de Farsi, Director Pakuranga Arts Centre, James Walker and Lloyd Elsmore, Mayor of Manukau City.
c) A thank you letter to James Walker from the Principal, T.C. McDermott, of Pakuranga Intermediate School from November 1977 after a demonstration and description of his stained glass working.
d) A copy of an article about James Walker from the Chattanooga Times, November 14 1978 describing his decision to settle in New Zealand and start glass working. The article also describes his renewal of an acquaintanceship with Erin Yon another stained glass artist.
e) A copy of an article from the New Zealand Herald, 19 August 1987, reporting an exhibition at the Denis Cohn Gallery, Hot and Glass Some Cold, from 17 to 28 August. Amongst the artists exhibited is James Walker, with his mirrored and staircase tower, housing a red- eyed rodent reflecting upon a hinge.
f) An invitation to a social function by Sir Michael Fowler as the Chairman of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council on 14 February at the Mercury Theatre, France Street, Auckland.
g) A handwritten letter of thanks to James Walker from Ken Gorbey at the National Art Gallery for the loan of some books and his time for discussing the new National Gallery of Art.
h) A thank you letter from Katherine Findlay of Kaleidoscope at Television New Zealand dated 27 November 1981 for his contribution to filming in Australia.
i) Press clippings folder from James Walker's Studio. The folder is labelled Shows, Events, News Clippings etc - JBW.
