Object detail
Brief Description
A letter written by Ron Nicholls recalling his memories of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Ron lived in Taradale Road and attended Greenmeadows School. He describes the sound of the earthquake as being like a host of locomotives and of his being thrown to the ground. He said survivors were taken to a vacant lot where they were picked up by their families. Ron writes that they lived in tents in their back yards before being evacuated to Waipukurau. They were moved again to the People's Palace in Wellington, where they stayed until they could return home.
