Brief Description
A undated and unsigned letter headed: Story. The letter is a humorous account of efforts made by employees of the Power Board to get home, when they discovered the Redcliffe bridge was out of commission following the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
The two electricians had been talking to the author's father, Tom Mitchell, an orchardist from Twyford, when the earthquake struck. The electricians headed for home but upon arrival at the Redcliffe bridge, found it out of commission. They were soon joined by a Power Board inspector and a meter reader who was driving a Baby Austin car. Having no alternative, the men carried the car across the river and continued on their way.
The author has listed the men as: Mr Fred Monk and Doug Strothers, electricians; Mr Brian Turton, Inspector and Mr Hetherington, meter reader.
