Brief Description
A letter from Delcie Paynter to the Hawke's Bay Cultural Trust, advising them that she has enclosed a complete cutting from the Hawke's Bay Today newspaper, regarding the Hawke's Bay earthquake. No clipping was found with the letter.
Delcie writes that her father, the Reverend Ernest Nicholls was the minister of the Hastings Baptist Church at the time of the earthquake. The chimneys in the manse came down and one came through the roof and landed on her bed. She recalls that the weather following the earthquake was magnificent and that people were able to sleep outside until their houses were safely restored. Delcie had just finished high school and remembers smaller earthquakes occurring for many months.
