A letter written by Tom Wheeler to the Hawke's Bay Cultural Trust in February 2001, about what happened to his mother at the time of the 1931 Hawke's Bay earthquake.
Tom writes that at the time of the earthquake, his family was living in Walkers Road, Waipawa and that his mother was pregnant. She was found unconscious by his father on the back lawn of their home. He writes that when the baby was born the following May it was stillborn. He has his sister's birth certificate but has been unable to find out what happened to her body. He feels that she was also a victim of the earthquake.
