Brief Description
Two letters from the officers in charge of the Transport Office in Napier to the Chairman of the Earthquake Relief Committee at Tiffen Park House Napier and the Secretary of the Earthquake Relief Fund Committee, Tiffen Park House, Napier:

(a) A two-page letter to the chairman of the Napier Earthquake Relief Committee at Tiffen Park House in Napier, dated 14 May 1931. The writers offer thanks for the receipt of two letters and the appreciation shown to their department. They explain that due to the many enquiries and other duties, they have found it necessary to keep their office in existence but hope to finalize all matters by 16 May, when all records will be forwarded to the Relief Committee. They ask that because of matters in connection with the Public Works Department between 4 and 6 May and accounts on behalf of the Relief Fund Committee, that their enclosed salary sheet be considered. The letter is signed by A H Hyde and there is also a second signature with the initials H R, the illegible surname beginning with H, possibly Hunter.

(b) A two-page letter to the secretary of the Earthquake Relief Fund Committee at Tiffen Park House, Napier, dated 15 May 1931, regarding a Stewart Nash Motors Limited account. The writers state that the goods represented were furnished by the Hawke's Bay Transport Company under order from the Public Works Department foreman and that the Committee is liable for payment of the account, with the refund to be claimed from the Public Works Department.

The letter states that the company has a claim against them for services rendered and unless pressure is brought to bear on them for payment, it is likely that the Relief Committee will sustain the loss. They state that Stewart Nash Motors Limited were in error in sending the original invoice directly to Hawke's Bay Transport Company instead of to the Transport Office and that prices and discounts listed in the account have been verified. The letter is signed by A H Hyde and there is also a second signature with the initials H R, the illegible surname beginning with H, possibly Hunter.
